The Prettiest Street in Paris

August 08, 2011

I was walking home from Gare de Lyon with a friend last week, zigzagging towards Seine opposite the start of Boulevard Saint Germain, and we happened upon what we have deemed the prettiest street in Paris.

Rue Crémieux in the 12th arrondissement runs for just one block between rue de Bercy and rue de Lyon, about half-way between Gare de Lyon and the Bassin de l’Arsenal by Bastille.  It is a pedestrian street.  There are no cafés or restaurants and no shops, just one small “Hôtel Mignon“.  However, the facades of the houses are colorful and inviting and each is unique.  Some facades are decorated with painted figures or plants, some have intricate details or ornaments.  Flower boxes line the sidewalks.  These homes are certainly well-loved.

So take a short detour next time you are in the 12th, and of course keep your eyes peeled for more hidden treasures!
